I plan to go to Eastern Europe through the Peace Corps in September
to teach English. I’ve always been interested in international
relations and I’ve always been active in community service,
so the Peace Corps seemed like the perfect thing for me to pursue.
I’d eventually like to have a career in diplomacy and I
feel that joining the Peace Corps is a good starting point.
The
most valuable experience I’ve had was studying through
St. Lawrence’s
program in London. It prepared me for my interest in international politics – I
was able to observe first-hand the British government through my internship
at the London Labour Party. I also received a St. Lawrence international and
intercultural studies travel grant to study native political history in Berlin
while I was in Europe.
I received a St. Lawrence Fellowship to study British
and American imperialism during the summer of 2002. One of the strengths
of my fellowship was having
the opportunity to work one-on-one with my favorite professor, Karl Schonberg.
This fellowship ended up forming the basis for my government senior thesis.
St. Lawrence has left me with lots of great memories and experiences.
I will value them for the rest of my life.
