“The connections between St. Lawrence University and the
Canton community are very important. For me, college isn’t
just about academics but it is also about becoming a well-rounded
person. Giving back to the community is an important aspect of
my life. Kappa Delta Sigma has helped me learn communication
and leadership skills as well as work with faculty and others
to organize community service projects for our house.”
“The courses I’ve taken in my major will help me
look at Denmark--how they handle environmental problems and how
their government works. This will give me a better perspective
on what we do here. Coming from a small town, I think it will
be a great experience to go to school in a big city like Copenhagen
and experience different cultures.
“St. Lawrence is in a great location to study the environment
because of its proximity to the Adirondacks, and government because
of its proximity to Ottawa. Its central location has been very
helpful with my combined major.”
“I’m doing a government-sponsored internship with
Canton Mayor Robert M. Wells, who is also a professor emeritus
at St. Lawrence. I’m working on a grant for an energy audit
on the Canton municipal building. I hosted a youth summit that
business people, teachers, daycare providers, SLU faculty, and
Canton government officials attended. The internship has been
a very valuable experience that I wouldn’t learn in a classroom.”
