Abhishek Parajuli '04 transferred to St. Lawrence during his
junior year after attending Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado
Springs for two years. He says he is glad St. Lawrence offers
its students the opportunity to major in more than one subject
because he believes the knowledge he has gained by double majoring
will make his transition after college much easier.
Parajuli lives in International House, a theme floor on campus
that allows students from different countries and students who
have studied abroad to and share experiences live together. He
says he enjoys this because it allows him to interact with people
from all over the world as they organize activities to show the
diversity and different cultures on campus.
Parajuli has taken advantage of St. Lawrence's Fellowship program
as well. He says, “I spent my summer of 2003 on campus as a Phelps
Fellow. I worked closely with Professors Michael Sheard and Robin
Lock to produce statistical software that generates the ratings
of college hockey teams and makes an effort to forecast the results.
I learned a lot in both the statistical and computer science
fields. Dr. Lock uses the software to maintain his ratings page
at http://it.stlawu.edu/~chodr.”
Parajuli says transferring was a tough adjustment, “but St. Lawrence
has provided me enough help and a good environment, academically
and otherwise, to be able to prosper.”
