From living in her sorority house to taking study
trips to Peru and Costa Rica, Tuyet Nguyen ’03 has gotten
what she has wanted out of St. Lawrence, though the thing that
she likes most
is the weather.
“I cherish the fact that after a long, bleak winter, a 40-degree day would
be considered a heat wave with students in shorts and in Tevas,” she says.
Nguyen
lives in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and works in the Brush Art Gallery. She
says that looking back on four years at St. Lawrence, her favorite
class
was Stagecraft. She hopes that someday, “I will be able to pick up
a scalpel and perform open heart surgery.”
It’s what Nguyen
has done outside of the classroom that she calls her most important experiences. “Taking
that first initiative to pick up the application to study abroad changed
my life,” Nguyen says. She calls
her semester in Costa Rica “the best time of my college career. We
interviewed locals who live by the beach and spent quality time with them
to get the best
understanding of culture through the youth.”
On campus, Nguyen has
come to appreciate the Greek life. “The experience
has been nothing less than superb. The integrity and traditions that I
have learned within the Kappa house walls have taught me a new respect
for the Greek
system,” she says.
