From her first
visit to campus, Trish MacMahon knew that St. Lawrence was a
place where all people were treated as part of a community. “I
visited St. Lawrence during one of the fall visit days,” she
recalls. “I went to the climbing
wall, went to a couple of club meetings and was welcomed by everyone
in the groups. They treated me like I was a student right along
with them—not like a prospective who they needed to treat
differently.”
This welcoming environment continued to impress her as she climbed
the ranks of The Hill News, the student newspaper. “I was
the only first-year on the Editorial Board, yet I was accepted
away,” she says. This shows how easy it is to get involved
at St. Lawrence. You will still be treated with the same level
of respect no matter what year you are.”
MacMahon hopes to keep newspaper work a part of her life after
St. Lawrence by pursuing a graduate program in print journalism
and then finding a career in newspaper production. She also plans
to continue working as an EMT, hoping to complete advanced certifications
in the next year.
