Artists’ Guild resident, technical support for numerous
theater productions.
My friends joke that I live in Gulick Theatre on campus. Well,
they’re almost right! This semester I’m working on
a project in stage lighting and it takes up all my time, because
I’m designing lights for four big productions. St. Lawrence
puts a great deal of trust in its students. One of the shows I
did was The Famous Mrs. Beach, a play written by Rebecca Daniels,
the department chair. To add such serious credits to a resume
as an undergraduate student is amazing. There is so much to do
in theater and I feel encouraged to try everything. For example,
I will direct a short play in my directing class later in the
semester, while being directed in a monologue for an acting class!
I’m also a judge on the Student Judicial Board. Every case
is unique. It’s hard to understand all the causes and possible
effects of people’s actions. We usually argue for a long
time before reaching a resolution. I’ve been on “J-Board”
for almost a year and it’s been one of the significant experiences
of my life at St. Lawrence. It makes me question my own values
and beliefs over and over again. I hope it teaches me and others
to be better people.
