A HEOP-sponsored trip to St. Lawrence sold Anzinga Low on the
University. “As soon as I got out of the van, I knew it
was for me,” she says. “I felt everyone was real,
and that they really cared about my well-being and the college
experience I was about to embark on. Plus, I’m from the
city; St. Lawrence’s campus was utterly beautiful.”
A self-proclaimed dreamer, Low has high aspirations for herself
and her writing. A semester in London and a McNair Scholarship
helped her get closer to those dreams. Regarding London, she
says, “I not only developed my writing skills, but also
found a mentor who gave me confidence to write. She believed
in my work and, for a writer, that is the best feeling in the
world.”
Under the auspices of McNair program, Low researched and wrote
a play on Chinese Americans and generational gaps. “I’d
started to develop it in London,” she notes.
“My goals are not concrete, since in life nothing is set
in stone,” she says. “I would like to be an accomplished
writer, to have a play debut on Broadway or to look up in the cinema
and see my screenplay come to life. I know my destiny lies in media.
Ultimately, it’d be great to have my own production company.”
