"I thought, ‘If somebody that I know from my town
in Minnesota likes St. Lawrence, so will I,'" says
Kaia Klockeman '06, who learned about St. Lawrence from
Jessie Stepanek '04, a former member in Klockeman's
high school choir.
"St. Lawrence may be small," Klockeman says, "but
I noticed immediately how many opportunities there are: clubs
to join, positions to hold, research opportunities, international
study, and more. The list is almost endless. The only restriction
is the amount of free time you have outside of classes."
One special activity has been participating in leadership conferences
hosted by Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honorary. "I
really enjoy learning different ways of doing things, especially
when it relates to being a better leader, and better person in
general," she says. "These conferences were perfect
for that."
Next semester, Klockeman will study on St. Lawrence's
program in France. In 2004, she was named a University Fellow,
spending the summer on campus working one-on-one with an economics
professor to research "Understanding the Process and Results
of Comparing the Countries of the World on the Basis of Economic
Development." She also joined a research trip to Hong Kong
during the 2004 Winter Break. Clearly she has taken advantage
of many of the opportunities she has seen.
