Being from Wisconsin, I was nervous at first about making friends
at an Eastern college. However, my outlook on socialization changed
after just a little while. I quickly joined a few groups on campus
like the Laurentian Singers and the club rugby team, and I felt
like I had found a niche.
I have definitely found a great match in the biology department
here. I enjoy the “hands-on” lab experience as well
as the small class sizes. The first-name basis that I have with
most of my professors here takes many pressures off the usual
stressful learning process. In addition, because I have a high
level of interest in field biology, St. Lawrence has proved to
be a great fit. Almost all of my field-biology labs end up being
held outdoors, where one can actually witness trends, organisms
and relationships in their natural environments. We take frequent
excursions into the Adirondack Mountains and other environments
outside our immediate area. Studying “on location”
is much more enjoyable and useful than simply studying it out
of books, and thanks to small class sizes it’s logistically
feasible to do at St. Lawence.
