A resident of southern Georgia, Chinasa Izeogu learned about
St. Lawrence through the University’s rich network of people. “The
dean of students at my preparatory school and his wife are SLU
alums,” she says. “I talked to him about St. Lawrence,
and he said that he loved it.”
The recipient of a Presidential Diversity Scholarship, Chinasa
spent the spring 2004 semester on the London Program. “It
was a great experience because it not only showed me the differences
and similarities we have with people, but also gave me the opportunity
to test-drive my future career,” she says. Her internship,
an obligatory part of the program, was with Carlton Books, where
she realized a career in publishing would be a perfect fit. She
says, “As I sat at my desk helping the woman in charge
of publicity do the work of three people, I was content because
I knew that I had made the right career choice.”
But not everything she learned was career-related. “I approached
everything from a different scope, especially at this time when
American policy is not very popular in Europe ,” she explains. “Going
through the program gave me a crash course in time management and
flexibility. I learned that preparation is essential and that anything
can happen to change the course of the day.”
