| Margaret F. Strait
Director of Athletics
Margie Strait, director of athletics and chair of the sports studies
and exercise science academic program, has been on the St. Lawrence
team since completing her master’s in counseling in 1973.
She began her career as instructor of physical education, has
coached several varsity teams—most notably tennis—and
was named to her current position in 1998. “I enjoy the small liberal arts university that values the
students’ development
as part of their education mission. It’s a caring and supportive community
where faculty, staff and students work together for a common goal,” Strait
says.
Strait serves on many University committees outside of the athletic
department as well. She has been on the counseling resource team for more
than 20 years
and is a member of the Committee on Women and the University Planning Committee
for Facility Improvement, among many others.
Outside of St. Lawrence, Strait
is active in her community, the St. Lawrence River town of Waddington, having
served as a village board member and consultant
to the recreation committee as well as staying involved with her church and
adult children’s colleges and careers. She also enjoys rollerblading,
biking, tennis, reading and boating on the St. Lawrence.
