| Name: Harley Lowry
Title: Associate Director
Department: Dining and Conference Services
Harley Lowry, a Canton
native, has spent the last 18 years working in the dining and conference
services department at St. Lawrence
University. After graduating from SUNY Canton and continuing
his education at the college’s culinary institute, Lowry knew
that St. Lawrence was the place he wanted to be. “ St. Lawrence
University’s dining service department is acclaimed nationally,” stated
Lowry. “ I was always impressed with it.”
Recently
promoted to associate director, Lowry organizes and plans events
on campus for students and faculty, such as banquets and theme
dinners. He creates
menus for those occasions, maintains relationships with the University’s
food vendors, and develops and researches food products for the campus community.
Lowry explained that he enjoys the “attitude” at St. Lawrence,
which allows him to take great pride in what he does. “St. Lawrence is
an active, growing and changing place with an atmosphere of teamwork and respect,” he
says.
When Lowry is not involved in a campus event or “cooking up” a
new menu, he spends his time researching aspects of different ethnic cuisines,
particularly Italian and Asian. He enjoys learning about the ways in which
different cultures prepare their dishes. In his spare time Lowry is actively
involved in his church, and teaches a Sunday school class.
Lowry has been recognized
for his dedication and exemplary service to the University by being awarded
The John P. “Jack” Taylor Distinguished Career
Service Award.
