| Carol L.Garbarino
Director of Career Services
and Leadership Education
A graduate of Allegheny College , with a master's degree in college
student personnel from Bowling Green State University and Ph.D.
from the University of Iowa in student development in post-secondary
education, Carol Garbarino joined the St. Lawrence staff in 2001.
She defines her work as “helping students to gain perspective
on their experience at St. Lawrence when it's happening rather
than years down the road. If they're fully engaged in understanding
their own developmental and learning processes, they can make choices
and decisions during their time here that will benefit them for
a lifetime.” To that end, it's Garbarino's priority to develop
further and maintain a cohesive and engaging four year Career Services
and Leadership Education program that encourages students to begin
thinking about what life may hold for them after graduation during
their time at St. Lawrence beginning with their very first year.
Garbarino's office is for students at any place in their academic
career. “We
often work with first year and sophomore students in career exploration, sophomores
and juniors on internship searching and selection, and with senior students
on the graduate school and job search processes. We're really looking
forward to our move to the new Student Center in the spring which will put
us in the center of student life,” she adds.
”I love working at St. Lawrence because it's a liberal arts institution
that challenges students to develop into the most well-rounded of
individuals,” she says. “St. Lawrence is also a vibrant campus
that has learned how to balance ritual and tradition with innovation
and change. In terms of career services, the alumni of St.
Lawrence really make this job a pleasure. St. Lawrence has
a wonderful alumni body that is always willing to assist current
students with their careers rather through offering advice, internships,
or employment opportunities.”
