| Shawn-Eric Brooks
Director of Residential Learning Communities
Shawn-Eric Brooks
came to St. Lawrence during the summer of 2002, having earned his
B.A. at Thiel College; an M.A. from Indiana
University of Pennsylvania, in student personnel services; a
second M.A. from UCLA, in higher education and organizational
change; and his Ph.D. also at UCLA. He has been instrumental
in changes with the housing selection process for fall 2003,
and has participated in the senior townhouse construction project.
He also oversees the professional RLC (Residential Learning Communities)
staff. Brooks came to Canton after living in West Hollywood, Cal.,
where he worked in residential life at UCLA for 12 years along
with spending time on movie
sets as an actor. “I used to be able to look down on Santa Monica Boulevard
from my apartment and see traffic 24 hours a day. I wanted to live in a place
that had a slower pace of life and cleaner air,” he says. “We take
for granted the low crime rate here. I haven’t missed California one
bit—I love having four seasons!”
Brooks says that “One of
my major tasks has been the construction of the senior townhouses. Giving students
more options like block housing gives
them more controls over their community. The personal attention we can give
students benefits them in many ways.”
