Name: Ashish Dixit ’06
Hometown: Kathmandu, Nepal
Major(s): Computer Science and Mathematics
Extracurricular Activities: Justice, Student Judiciary Board; Treasurer, Badminton Club;Member, Cricket Club, January 2004; President, SABHA (South Asian Bollywood Holiday Association).

Ashish Dixit first learned of St. Lawrence from a college guidebook and the University’s Web site. A transfer to St. Lawrence, he says, “My decision to apply was largely affected by the research opportunities, both on and off campus, and opportunities for overall personal development through several avenues on campus. However, the generous financial aid award that I received was what made it possible for me to attend.”

Dixit believes that “Every choice you make in your life, no matter how trivial, will affect you and others around you.” Accordingly, he states that “All interactions that I have had with the faculty, peers, staff and people from the community around St. Lawrence have had some impact on me and helped me develop a broader outlook toward world issues.” Apropos of that outlook, as president of SABHA, he was part of a team that organized an on-campus relief fund for victims of the December 2004 tsunami that struck parts of South Asia . His long-range plans are still in the formative stages, but in the nearer term Dixit aspires to a summer 2005 internship or research fellowship, “so that I can figure out what I can do. I also would like to work a year after graduation and use that experience to get a clearer sense of what area within computer science I want to delve into,” he says. In summer 2004 he completed a University Fellowship project, “Language Based Hardware Design Using SystemC.”
