John DeLorbe chose St. Lawrence because “I was looking
for a small school in a rural area.” He continues, “When
I came to visit, the campus was exactly what I was looking for.”
The smaller class sizes and the availability of professors are
two things DeLorbe appreciates about his SLU education. “I
feel the professors want each and every student to succeed, and
they show this through their willingness to provide extra one-on-one
help,” he says. For his senior project in chemistry, DeLorbe
is attempting to isolate the active component, Saliva A, from
S. Divinorum.
DeLorbe notes that St. Lawrence has made great leaps in renovations
and building projects during his time as a student; from the
Newell Field House to the independent-living senior townhouses
and new Student Center. As for the soon-to-begin science facilities
project, part of St. Lawrence’s 10-year Master Plan supporting
excellence across the curriculum, DeLorbe states, “Any
expansion for the sciences at SLU will be great because it will
draw more students who are interested in the different science
majors.”
Although he has not decided on a destination yet, DeLorbe is planning
on graduate school for organic chemistry in the fall.
