Office
Last semester I took my First Year Seminar (FYS) with Natalia
Singer-This Life, This Place. The class took field trips into
the North Country and we met some pretty interesting people and
saw their homes and/or places of business. After the field trips
each student in the class chose a person or place that they wanted
to do an in-depth report on. I chose Linda Casserly, the Town
Historian. I spent three weeks shadowing Linda. I followed her
to work, ate dinner at her house, and helped her gather sap to
make maple syrup. She even taught me to knit. I wrote a ten page
paper on my experience and on Linda’s life.
Linda has become a great friend. Even though we have an age difference
of about 30 years, we still seem to find a lot to talk about.
As a result of my class last year with Natalia, I have found a
great friend in Linda and also a working partner. Linda and I
worked with the University to set up a work/study job for me in
her office. I just started working a couple of days ago. I’m
looking forward to learning more about Canton and doing some valuable
work for the community during my time in the Historian's Office.
