| Jeffrey Stannard ’75
Major: Chemistry
Profession: Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, Syracuse,
N.Y.
After growing up in a rural community in Central New York, coming
to St. Lawrence was both shocking and exciting to Jeffrey Stannard.
The relationships that he developed and the experiences that he
had at St. Lawrence helped him to view the world in a new way and
find his path in life.
“It wasn’t until I went to St. Lawrence that I became
certain about my desire to be a dentist,” he says. I realized
that chemistry was something that I was especially interested in,
the labs provided the opportunity to apply my knowledge, and for
a summer job I worked in my godfather’s orthodontic office.
The combination made me realize that dentistry is a craft that
I wanted to become advanced at and do for a living.”
Dr. Stannard was a member of a Sigma Pi fraternity, and says “that
is where most of my friends and vivid memories came from.” Thinking
of organizations like the Outing Club and opportunities like study
abroad, he says, “Knowing how interesting my life was when
St. Lawrence wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is now, I can
only imagine how many different ways it provides for students to
experience life these days.”
