Name: Wayne Morgan ’73
Home: Ames, Iowa
Major: Sport and Leisure Studies
Profession: Head men’s basketball coach, Iowa State University

The Iowa State Web site describes Wayne Morgan as having an “up-tempo, exciting style of basketball [that] generated enthusiasm across the state and produced a memorable season [2003-04] that featured a team which was playing its best basketball late in the season.”

Morgan is in his second year as ISU head hoops coach; in his first season, he recorded 20 wins, tying for the ninth-best win total in school history. The 20 wins produced by Morgan, which is the second-best win total for an ISU coach in his first season at the helm, was just one of several highlights in his inaugural season.

After beginning his coaching career as an assistant at St. Lawrence, Morgan now has over 30 years of coaching and a proven track record of intercollegiate success. He has 12 NCAA tournaments, seven regular-season conference titles and four NIT appearances to his credit, and has tutored numerous players who have gone on to NBA careers.

An avid music fan, Morgan's hobbies include playing the guitar and saxophone. He is a black belt in karate.
