Sometimes people fall in love at first sight, when they least
expect it.
“My high school friends were going to look at St. Lawrence
during our senior year, and I went along for the ride,” remembers
Alexandra Kirby Taylor '89. “Everyone was so friendly,
it immediately felt like home. I knew I didn’t want to go
anywhere else.”
Alex says that the most valuable part of her St. Lawrence experience
is the lasting friendships she made. “I met one of my closest
friends working in the Pub together freshman year; recently, she
was a bridesmaid in my wedding!” she says.
“It wasn’t until I was an alumna that I truly learned
the depth of the phrase ‘Laurentian for Life.’ By serving
on the Alumni Council,” Taylor says, “I have gained
tremendous leadership experiences. I have also learned about fund-raising
and current issues in higher education. I’ve seen a completely
different part of the University’s culture that most students
don’t get to see. My volunteer work with St. Lawrence has
given me great insights into what kinds of careers are out there
and how valuable the St. Lawrence experience really is.”
While at St. Lawrence, Alex served on the yearbook senior class committee
and worked in the speech and theatre department. After graduation,
she spent a year in Europe studying French and then began her career
in insurance in New York City .
