| Ed Keller ‘86
Hometown: Marblehead, MA
Profession: Managing Director at Morgan Stanley in Boston
Referred to St. Lawrence by another St. Lawrence student, Ed Keller
instantly loved the open and friendly atmosphere, and knew it was
the school best suited to his personality. He came to St. Lawrence
without a clear vision of his future, so he experimented with science,
economics and eventually, through the motivational influence of
professor Tom Greene in psychology, he chose a psychology major.
“There
is no direct relationship between my major and my career,” he
says. “Psychology was an interesting major, but more than
anything else, my liberal arts education taught me how to understand
people and society through critical thinking.” Ed joined the
rugby team, was a Big Brother to a Canton child, and was a member
of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. A primary formative
experience in Ed’s time at St. Lawrence was his semester
of study in Austria. “The long-lasting relationships and
the powerful network that results are the greatest part of St.
Lawrence, ” he says. He attributes much of his confidence
and social awareness to his time at SLU.
Post-graduation, Ed spent
a couple of years in New York City as a broker and then did commercial
fishing in Alaska with a few other
SLU graduates. In 1991, he graduated from the master’s program
in business at Northwestern University, and then worked for Morgan
Stanley in London for five years. He is currently the managing
director in charge of its institutional business in Boston.
