Jack Van de Water’s career has focused on international
dimensions of higher education. His work involves collaboration
with each academic unit at Oregon State University to strengthen
the international dimensions of education and international activities,
including foreign study and exchanges, the English Language Institute,
foreign student advising, international internships, the international
degree program, and international dimensions of curriculum research
and faculty development. He has been an ACE Fellow in Academic
Administration with the American Council on Education and has served
as a Fulbright Scholar in both Japan and Thailand.
In addition
to his undergraduate B.A. degree from St. Lawrence, in history
and government (those departments, now separate, were
at that time combined), Dean Van de Water received an M.A. in
international relations and a PhD. in comparative and international
education,
both from Syracuse University. At St. Lawrence, he was a member
of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and ROTC and was a class officer.
He received an Alumni Citation from St. Lawrence in 2003, at which
time he indicated that his interest in international education
began when he was an undergraduate at the University.
