| Name: Wendy Davidson Freihammer ’94
Majors: English (writing concentration) and Sociology
Profession: Financial Advisor, American Express Financial Advisors
Home: Shirley, MA
Wendy Freihammer was honored last fall as a St. Lawrence Volunteer
of the Year in the area of career services. She participates in
Shadow-a-Saint, in which a student spends a day with her; has had
student interns during the summer; and hosted a Round Table Finance
Panel at her employer. "The alumni network and the career
services staff are both very strong," she says. "I found
both extremely helpful when I changed careers," and now she
is part of that proffered help.
Freihammer is an independent
contractor with American Express. "I own my practice with
American Express since it is a franchise," she explains. "I
get to wear many hats. My job is to build a successful financial
planning practice, which involves doing financial planning for
my clients, marketing my services in order to gain clients, and
servicing my existing clients, all while running a business."
Freihammer's
path is a model of the liberal arts ideal. Her majors, English
and sociology, prepared her for different aspects of her career,
such as communication and understanding how people work together.
In college, she was also a Chi Omega sorority member and an admissions
ambassador. "My professors had a profound impact on the person
I am today and for that, I am most grateful,” she says.
