Major: Economics
Profession: Graduate Student at Albany Law School
A senior at Albany Law School, Melody Deigor plans to move to
Washington D.C. and work for the United States government in the
public sector. She’ll be in familiar territory; while at
St. Lawrence, she studied with the University’s Washington
Semester, when her interest in law was sparked. She also interned
with retired Judge Eugene Nicandri in Canton, convincing her that
law school was the right direction.
Think a senior about to face final exams is overwhelmed? Think
again. Melody finds time to be the Reunion Development Chair for
the class of 2001 for their first reunion taking place this summer. “I’m
trying to encourage classmates to attend and to make a gift, whether
it’s monetary or by volunteering,” she says. Since
she graduated, she notices a special bond among alumni. With the
help of a few other grads, she has gathered regional alumni together
a number of times, noting that “Alumni stick together and
help each other out.”
Throughout her St. Lawrence career, Melody kept busy with her
sorority sisters in Kappa Kappa Gamma, where she learned about
the benefits of philanthropy work. She also worked for Admissions
and on the Panhellenic Council. Melody was a part of the Thelomathesian
Society (student government).
She realizes that all of the jobs and opportunities she had at St.
Lawrence are because of the generosity and the hard work of the alumni
from before her time. “The opportunities I had at St. Lawrence
put me where I am,” she says, “and I volunteer to help
so I can give back to St. Lawrence what it gave me, and so I can
give other students the same opportunities I had.”
