| Name: Peter Dalton ’94
Major: Environmental Studies/Government
Profession: Affiliate Support
Manager, Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI)
Peter Dalton was instrumental in founding the Habitat for Humanity
chapter, a still-flourishing student organization at St. Lawrence,
and since graduating he has converted that involvement into a career.
As an affiliate support manager, he is as an internal consultant
to independent, volunteer-driven Habitat affiliates in the Northeast
U.S. (Delaware to Maine). “My role is to give advice on
organizational issues, represent HFHI, and encourage affiliates
to increase their ability to eliminate substandard housing in their
service areas,” he explains.
Previously, Dalton had been Habitat’s Northeast Resource
Development Manager, training affiliates on how to do fundraising
and developing funding partnerships that benefited multiple affiliates.
His current job, he says, is “my first that is not exclusively
fundraising.
“Habitat for Humanity was a major part of my St. Lawrence experience,” says
Dalton, who grew up in Massena, N.Y., about 35 miles from campus,
and came to St. Lawrence as an Augsbury Scholar. In addition to helping
found the campus chapter with the assistance of the University chaplain
and others, he served as chapter president and worked with the local
affiliate. “The best part of my Habitat experience was meeting
my wife, Jen, who also volunteered with the group,” he adds. “I
was also involved with other service clubs, student government, as
a student representative for a Board of Trustees committee, in a
local tutoring program, and in intramural sports.”
