Customer Service Representative, Cellu Tissue Holdings, Inc.
When someone mentions St. Lawrence to Kendall Wehrle Bernier ’80,
she can’t say enough about how much she enjoyed her years
here. “St. Lawrence was a growing experience for me,” she
says. “I learned a lot, not only in the classroom, but also
about myself. I wasn’t just another number to the administration
or to my professors. Everyone knew everyone. It felt like home.”
Living in the Atlanta metropolitan area where there is a growing
Hispanic population, Kendall has found that studying in Spain and
studying Spanish has been an enormous help to her. She has used
her fluency often and has been a Spanish tutor.
She has also used her English major in several capacities, including
her current job. “My writing is certainly influenced by my
courses and my professors,” she says. “My mannerisms
and how I interact with people often reflect the social lessons
I learned at St. Lawrence.” Albert Glover, retired Piskor
Professor of English, made the biggest difference in Kendall ’s
college career. “He was tough; he kept pushing me to my limits
and making me work hard,” she says. “That’s what
I loved about him.”
Although she lives nearly 1,100 miles away Canton , she visits St.
Lawrence to see her two daughters, Megan ’07 and Sara ’08.
A member of the Parents Committee, Kendall hopes to continue contributing
to the school by reaching out to prospective students in her area
and sharing her experience at St. Lawrence with them.
