Greek Engagement Taskforce Fall 2003
The following outline is the result of Task Force work in the fall 2003.

Shared Values
Goal:
Create a set of shared values for all eight organizations to which they can subscribe and by which they can live

Fall 2003 Action Plan:
Review all eight organizations’ founding values and identify commonalities
Create a shared values statement
Have the statement adopted by both the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council

Campus Perceptions
Goal: Conduct focus groups with students, faculty, staff and community members that will highlight current perceptions of the Greek community

Fall 2003 Action Plan:
Develop questions that will address current perceptual issues
Work with Institutional Research to develop a focus group implementation plan
Conduct focus groups – one for each identified constituency


Scholarship

Goal: Develop strategies for raising fraternity averages to at or above the upperclass men’s GPA and improving scholarship performance for all Greek organizations.

Fall 2003 Action Plan:

Develop Gamma Sigma Alpha, the Greek Scholarship Honorary into an active organization
Involve GSA in brainstorming and implementing creative strategies to address the issue of Greek scholarship

New Member Period
Goal: Assess current reasons for apparent issues (hazing, social behavior, and GPA drops) during the pledging semester by conducting interviews with new members and new member educators

Fall 2003 Action Plan:
Interview 2 members from each chapter’s Fall 2003 new member class and 2 from each chapter’s Fall 2002 class
Interview each chapter’s current new member educator
Review new member programs from each chapter


Membership
Goal
:
Develop strategies for increasing membership while at the same time raising campus awareness about the recruitment processes and how they differ for the men’s and women’s organizations

Fall 2003 Action Plan:
Review current SLU recruitment strategies and compare those to like schools with model programs
Conduct evaluation of Fall 2003 recruitment period with participants including those who withdrew from the process

Risk Management
Goal
: Create a standard alcohol and drug risk management policy that complies with current state, university and national organization policies

Fall 2003 Action Plan:

Review Panhellenic and IFC risk management policies from comparative schools
Review SLU national organizations’ risk management policies
Create a standard alcohol and drug risk management policy
Have the policy adopted by both the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council


Substance-Free Living

Goal: Draft a document listing the pros and cons of substance free living using national resources and make a recommendation to the university and Greek community

Fall 2003 Action Plan:
Research national substance free housing policies for men’s and women’s Greek organizations
Conduct interviews with members who have deactivated or requested not to live in the house as to the reasons for their choice
Conduct interviews with members who live-in about what makes living conditions desirable and/or undesirable
