NORTH, HEARN COMPETE AT INDIVIDUAL NATIONALS

   Meg North and Jenn Hearn competed in CSA Individual Nationals at Williams to conclude the 2008-09 season with both players going 0-2 in Holleran Cup competition.


       North lost her opening match to Emilie Kraft 9-4, 9-0, 9-2 and lost in the consolation round to Ellie Foster 9-1, 9-1, 9-5 to finish her season with a 3-11 record. Hearn lost in the first round to Casey Simchik, 9-5, 9-4, 9-0 and lost to Chrissy Parsons in the consolation round 9-0, 9-0, 9-2. She finised her rookie season with a 4-15 record.

 

SAINTS GO 0-3 IN HOWE CUP COMPETITION


                St. Lawrence University’s women’s squash team went 0-3 in competition in the Walker “C” Division at the Howe Cup at Harvard, finishing their season with a 3-14 overall record.


                While the Saints won only two individual matches during the three-day competition, many of the individual matches were highly competitive over the course of the tournament.


                Amherst, the top seed in the division and eventual champion, turned back the Saints 9-0 in the first match of the weekend. Three of the nine matches went four games with Meg North winning game one at three before Kate Savage came back for a 3-1 win, Blake Carbone pushed Melissa Moulton of Amherst to four games at six and Molly Terrien won game one against Mimi Bell of Amherst 10-9 before Bell went on to win 3-1. Kendall Harty won the exhibition match at 10, beating Caroline Dreyspool 9-1, 7-9, 9-5, 9-1.


                Columbia beat the Saints 8-1 in the first of two placement matches with Carbone earning the Saint victory at six with a 9-2, 10-9, 9-3 win over Monica Gorman. Jenn Hearn lost in five to Olivia Tandon of Columbia, battling back from an 0-2 deficit with back-to-back 10-9 wins before Tandon took game five 9-1. Meg North also went five at three, losing to Anne Cheng as Cheng won games four and five after North had taken a 2-1 lead. Jackie Barrett and Alyssa Smith each went to four games against their Columbia opponents, Terrien lost in five at seven as Yasmine Koukaz rallied from a 2-1 deficit with wins in games four and five and Mimi O’Connor lost in four at eight.


                Colby defeated the Saints 8-1 in the 23-24 match as Terrien picked up the Saint victory with a 3-2 win over Kaeley Shepard. Terrien rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win, taking game four 9-3 and game five 9-5. O’Connor also went five games in her match against Colby, taking a 2-1 lead before Jessica Kravitz won games four and five by 9-3 and 9-7 scores.
