EMILY JOHNSON NAMED ASSISTANT COACH

 

July 1: Emily Johnson, an All America player and member of the 1991 Division III National Champion women’s soccer team at Ithaca College, has been named assistant women’s soccer coach at St. Lawrence University.


Johnson has most recently been assistant coach at Guilford College in North Carolina, working with all aspects of the program as well as serving as the goaltending coach. She joined the Guilford staff in 2004 after serving as the assistant women’s soccer coach and goaltending coach at Greensboro College from 2002-04. She was the goalkeeper coach for two USA South conference champions at Greensboro which made the NCAA tournament and coach the conference MVP goaltender. She has been Director of Goalkeeping for the Jamestown (NC) Soccer Club since May of 2008 and developed and coached a goalkeeping program for girls and boys ages 8-16


She earned All Region and All Conference honors at Ithaca in 1993 and 1994 and was team captain and Most Valuable Player as a senior.


She began her coaching career as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland and was head girls soccer and  basketball coach at Lincoln Middle School in Massachusetts. She also served as interim head women';s soccer coach at Bentley College and was head women’s soccer and lacrosse coach at Ferrum College in Virginia.


“Emily brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program,” said Saint head coach Franco Bari. “Her ability to successfully develop goaltenders has been tremendous, and her exposure to a very high level of play with enhance our program needs. Although she will work primarily with our goalkeepers and recruiting, her many strengths will also give us the ability to work together with practice planning, on-field coaching and with the academic and personal development of members of our team. I am very excited for her to begin.”

 

 

HYNES EARNS ALL-REGION

FIRST TEAM HONORS

Dec. 9:  Sophomore back Nicky Hynes continued to receive accolades for her performance this season as she was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-New York Region First Team on Tuesday.


Hynes (Carleton Place, ONT/The Kent School) anchored a defense that only allowed 77 shots on goal, the lowest in the conference, 13 goals, and earned nine shutouts.  The defender also recorded one goal and two assists en route to the Saints 10-5-3 overall record, which also included their first trip to the Liberty League Tournament in five years. 


Hynes earned Defensive Performer of the Week honors after securing a defensive line that only allowed two shots on goal in two games.  Her efforts placed the Saints among the best in the country defensively throughout much of the season.
