2007: McHugh played in all 17 games and started in 13 in her rookie season. She was a strong asset to the Saints' midfield line, and tallied three points for the year, including her first collegiate goal which she scored against nationally-ranked Hamilton on October 20th. The Lowville, NY native also had two assists in her 2007 campaign and assisted the game-winning goal against Oswego State in September.

At Lowville Academy
McHugh was a three-sport athlete, competing in soccer, basketball, and softball. She was a four-year starter for the soccer team and captain in 2006. She was a three-time Frontier League All-Star, a three-time All-North selection, and a 2006 All-CNY 3rd Team. Off the field, McHugh earned honors for her participation on the basketball and softball teams and was named Salutatorian of her graduating class. She was vice-president of the National Honor Society and received the New York State Regents Academic Excellence Scholarship, as well as the Army National Scholar Athlete Award.
