Week Nine:
Oct. 13- Oct. 26
SAINTS EARN UCAA
PLAYOFF BERTH
Oct. 25- St. Lawrence University clinched the fourth
and final Upstate0 Collegiate Athletic Association playoff spot
in a 3-1 women’s soccer victory over Vassar College Saturday
afternoon at Prentiss Field.
Sophomore forward Sarah Skinner scored the first Saint goal when
she scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Devon Cain at
14:07. Freshman midfielder Samantha Bealer made it 2-0 with less
than five minutes in the half, when she broke in all on sophomore
goalkeeper Alice England for the goal. Junior midfielder Liz Masterson
put the game away four minutes into the second half when she picked
up a loose ball inside the Vassar box and scored into a vacant
net.
Carly Draper recorded the shutout with three saves for St. Lawrence,
10-4-1, 4-2-1. England made one save in the first half for Vassar,
3-12-0, 1-6-0. Heather Jaffe stopped five shots in the second.
St. Lawrence ended tied with Hamilton in the third seed of conference
play, but lost the tie breaker to end up in the fourth and final
spot. The first rule of tie breaking is to look at the team's head
to head performance and in this case Hamilton and St. Lawrence
tied 1-1. The rule next looks at the team's record versus conference
opponents in descending order and in this case Hamilton beat Union,
who is in first place. St. Lawrence will draw host Union College
in the first round of the UCAA Championship and more details will
be available at the end of the week. The Saints close out their
regular season at Oswego State on November 1st at 1 p.m.
GILLER SCORES SOLO
GOAL
Oct. 24- St. Lawrence got ten saves from keeper Carly
Draper and scored the game's lone goal at 13:26 of the first half
for a Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association victory over the
Rensselaer Red Hawks Friday evening.
Jen Giller scored an unassisted goal for the Saints, who improved
to 9-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the UCAA. Giller is third in scoring
for the Saints as she now has three goals on the season.
RPI, which got one save from Tara Marandino and two from Regina
Primm, are now 7-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the league.
The Saints will travel to Vassar tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
DRAPER AWARDED
Oct. 20- Carly Draper was named UCAA Defensive Performer
of the Week for not only last week's action, but for her skills
throughout the season.
A first year student from Ottawa, Ontario, Draper
made three saves and recorded her sixth shutout on the season as
the Saints blanked the Ithaca College Bombers 1-0 last Saturday.
