SAINTS FALL IN
UCAA OPENER
Sept 26- The St. Lawrence Saints, 5-2-1, lost in
their UCAA conference home opener to rivals Union Dutchwomen
2-1. The Dutchwomen, 6-0-0, are ranked 12th in the nation.
Union's Brittany Cressman opened the scoring early
in the game at the 4:36 mark from an unassisted shot inside the
18-yard box.
Saint Ashley Monus answered back at the 57:12 mark
with another unassisted goal from the inside of the side post.
Head Coach Deb Biche noted that the Saints had strong
contributions from players coming off the bench.
At 63:30 Cressman connected to Marissa VanVocurt
who headed the ball into the right hand corner of the net past
Saint's goalkeeper Carly Draper. Draper had three saves while Union goalkeeper Julie
Gawronski recorded six for the win.
"I think we played well, we moved the ball well
and we had the chance to win we just couldn't convert on our scoring
opportunities. Near the end we panicked and lost our composure," Biche
commented.
The Saints face another UCAA team tomorrow against
Skidmore on Sandy MacAllaster field.
