SAINTS LOSE FIRST GAME OF SEASON

Sept 20- The St. Lawrence Saints, 5-1-1, outshot their opponents 16-8 as they lost their first game of the season to the visiting Golden Flyers of Nazareth.

Leah Yandow opened the scoring for the Saints early in the first half off a corner kick from Nicole Lopez. Yandow shot low and left to wiz past Nazareth goalkeeper Candace Hatcher.

Nazareth answered back with the next two goals to close out the first half with a lead of 2-1. Beth Berger scored her first goal of the game unassisted at the 25:15 mark. Rosanne Simiele connected to the top right corner of the net from the six yard mark just before halftime.

Saint Sarah Skinner tied the game at the 57:26 mark of the second half after stealing the ball from Hatcher.

Hatcher had six saves for the Golden Flyers.

Laura Mallia scored the game winner for the Golden Flyers seven minutes later from a free kick at the 18 mark. Beth Berger sealed the deal for the Golden Flyers scoring two more goals before Laura Mallia scored her second of the game by pounding a shot into the top center of the net just out of the Saints goalkeeper Carly Draper.

Draper had two saves for the Saints.

The Saints play next weekend hosting UCAA conference teams Union on Friday and Skidmore on Saturday.
