Week Two: Sept. 1- Sept. 7

SAINTS WIN SEASON HOME OPENER

Sept. 6- The Saints defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 2-1 as they played their first game on Sandy MacAllaster field in the 2003 season.

Cortland, 1-2-0, opened the scoring twenty minutes into the first half with a high shot at the top of the 18 off the foot of Jodie Gabel.

The Saints, 3-0-0, tied it up early in the second half as they were able to capitalize on a corner kick from Sarah Skinner. Nicole Lopez headed the kick from Skinner to teammate Jen Giller who then also headed it past Dragon's goalie Christa Windhorst.

The Red Dragons had a chance to pull ahead when Angela Bruno was awarded a penalty kick after goalkeeper Carly Draper tripped her within the 18 yard box. Bruno was unable to score as Draper blocked her shot. Draper had seven saves in the game.

It wasn't until Lopez had a break away pass from Skinner later in the half that the Saints took control of the game and insure the win. It was the third goal of the season for Lopez.

The Saints travel to Rochester on Tuesday to face the Yellowjackets at 4:00 pm.
