SAINTS WIN ANNUAL TOURNAMENT

Aug. 31- The Saints, 2-0-0, continued their domination during the North Country Classic Tournament as they beat Adrian College 11-0 earning them a first place finish.

Five women were named to the All-Tournament team including freshman Zippy Podhaizer, senior Kate Adams and sophomores Leah Yandow, Sarah Skinner and Ashley Monus.

The Saints blew it open early, scoring four goals in the first 9:25 of the game, two of them by Adams, who finished the game with three goals and an assist. Skinner added two goals and an assist, Tori Kohn and Liz Masterson scored two goals each, Nikki Lopez had a goal and an assist and Monus added a goal. Carly Draper recorded her second straight shutout, but did not need to make a save as the Saints outshot Adrian 29-0 with two Adrian goaltenders combining for 11 saves.

"This game gave us a chance to look at the younger players and see how well they worked together. Zippy did a wonderful job and solidified her spot on the field," head coach Deb Biche said.

St. Lawrence scored 17 goals in the two games and outshot the opposition 62-1 en route the tournament championship. The Saints will face a tougher challenge next week when perennial power Cortland State visits Canton for a non league game at 2 p.m. Saturday on MacAllaster Field.

"They are a big time opponent. We'll have to work hard this week to be prepared for them," Biche said.
