Courtney Sawchuk '10
Forward
Sherwood Park, Alberta
Edmonton Chimos

2007-08: With the Saints’ defensive corps struggling early in the season, Sawchuk was shifted from offense to defense and quickly helped shore up the team’s void along the blue line. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native used her quickness and competitiveness to overcome what she lacked in size, finishing her sophomore year with a pair of goals and nine assists at defense. Sawchuk also earned her way on to ECAC Hockey’s All-Academic Team.

2006-07: Sawchuk added speed and an aggressive style of play to the Saints third line in her rookie season, contributing eight points in 39 games as a first year student. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native scored her first career goal against Brown on December 1st, and added the second of her career against Dartmouth in the ECACHL Championship game. Sawchuk, who often saw time on the penalty kill thanks to her constant hustle, also collected six assists in her first season with the Scarlet and Brown.

Pre-St. Lawrence

Sawchuk is one of two St. Lawrence newcomes who participated in the Hockey Canada Under-22 tryouts in August. She scored 14 goals and had 14 assists for the Edmonton Chimos last season, and won a Provincial gold medal in cross country. Courtney was a member of the bronze medal team at the 2004 Esso Nationals, and is the daughter of Cathy and Walter Sawchuk. The Sherwood Park, AB native was born on October 30, 1988.
