LUDINGTON, NUFFER TO CAPTAIN SAINTS
IN THE FALL OF 2009
May 20: St. Lawrence University women’s cross country head coach Mike Howard has announced that Johannah Ludington and Chelsea Nuffer will captain the Saints in the fall of 2009. The senior duo will attempt to lead the Scarlet and Brown back to the NCAA Championship after a 21st place finish in 2008.
Ludington proved to be one of the team’s clutch runners in her junior year, as her breakout campaign was highlighted by a second place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional race behind teammate Wendy Pavlus. The Morrisville, VT native will be serving her second straight season as captain of the squad. Meanwhile, Nuffer, a Liberty League All-Conference runner in 2007, is eager to return to the Saints’ line-up after spending the majority of last season recovering from surgery.
"I could not be happier with the fact that Johannah and Chelsea will be serving as our captains this fall,” said Coach Howard. “They are both very excited to help our team continue its consistent rise to success on the national level and offer our team a nice blend of seasoned experience and enthusiasm.”
St. Lawrence will also be out to capture the program’s eighth consecutive Liberty League title in the fall of 2009, as well as defending the program’s first ever New York State championship.
“In addition to our normal competitive schedule, which will see us host the Liberty League Championships for a second straight year, we have enhanced the 2009 schedule and plan to return to the prestigious Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University which features a number of the top Division I, II and III programs from around the country,” added Coach Howard.
