MELISSA DERAN

After an impressive inaugural season as head coach of the St. Lawrence volleyball team, Melissa DeRan returns for her second season at the helm of the program.

In 2007, DeRan guided the Saints to one of the most successful seasons in 15 years, which included the most wins the program had seen since 1993 and its first .500 season since 2000. The Saints went 19-19 and made just the second NYSWCAA Championship appearance of the current decade, finishing ninth with a split of matches. The Saints also had strong showings during in-season tournaments at Scranton, winning the Purple Division with a 3-1 record and going 3-0 at the Oswego Round Robin. The 19 wins are the most for a Saint team since the 1993 team went 20-16 and the 19-19 record was the best since the 2000 team went 18-17.

DeRan, a 1999 graduate of Murray State University and a standout volleyball player for the Racers, was head volleyball coach and an assistant track coach at Division II Tiffin University, coaching six all conference athletes and four Academic All Americas in volleyball and a number of national qualifiers in the throws in track and field. Prior to St. Lawrence, DeRan was an assistant volleyball coach at Otterbein College.

She also was an assistant coach at Capital and coached teams of USA Athletes International and Junior Olympic Volleyball.

DeRan also assists with the track and field program in addition to her duties as head volleyball coach.
