FRAN GREMBOWICZ HEAD COACH
Building the softball Saint program from scratch, she has compiled a ten-year record of 125-169-1 in softball and was 2000 league champion and 2001 conference runner-up. Her team won the NYSWCAA championship in both 2002 and 2003.
Grembowicz began her Saint coaching career as women's basketball coach, and laid the foundation for a program which made five consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in that sport. Though she no longer coaches the women's basketball squad, she does serve as the head coach for the field hockey team.
Grembowicz, who has an extensive college and high school coaching background, came to the Saint program from the University of Chicago to start the 1991-92 season in basketball. She was assistant director of undergraduate studies in the college of kinesiology at Chicago. Prior to that she was assistant varsity basketball coach at Smith College, where she also served as junior varsity basketball coach and assistant softball coach. She has also been athletic director at Rochester (VT) High School and coached field hockey, basketball and softball.
A graduate of Castleton State with master's degrees from the University of Vermont and Smith, Grembowicz has played in national softball tournaments and was a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Northeast squad in 1979.
In addition to her duties as field hockey and softball coach, Grembowicz is also an assistant athletic director and helps coordinate the Sports Information office.
MELISSA PITTELLI ASSISTANT COACH
Pittelli graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology in the spring of 2007. She was a dual-sport athlete at St. Lawrence, playing both softball and field hockey. The Corinth, NY native served as captain for each squad in both her junior and senior seasons, and was named an Regional All-American for field hockey in both 2005 and 2006.
In the summer of 2007, Pittelli served as a camp counselor for mentally and physically disabled adults. Prior to that, she worked at field hockey and softball camps at Corinth High School. Pittelli also served as a local facilitator, helping to strengthen University and community relationships.
