Head Men's Track Coach John Newman
Co-captain of the 1993 Saint cross country team and a four-year runner for the Saints in cross country and indoor and outdoor track, John Newman has been assistant cross country and track and field coach since 1994 and became head men's cross country coach in 2001. He was named to the position of head men's track and field coach to start the 2008-09 season.
He serves as high jump coach and middle and long distance coach for the track team and is its recruiting director.
As cross country coach he has extended the Saint string of league championships and has earned league Coach of the Year honors including six of the last sevenLiberty League coaching awards.He has coached his team to the league title in each of his seven seasons as head coach and his team was ranked 12th nationally in 2007.
A 1994 graduate of St. Lawrence, he has played a major role in the success of the men's cross country program over the last several years which includes nine straight conference men's titles and a string of three straight New York State Collegiate Track Conference cross country championships through 2002. The Saints also won the NCAA Regional championship in 1997 and 2000.
