HEAD THROWS COACH AND STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH MATT KUENZEL

The 2008 Atlantic Region Assistant Women's Coach of the Year as selected by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Matt Kuenzel is in his third season as a Saint coach and will be the Head Throws Coach and strength and conditioning coach for the Saint men's and women's programs.

Kuenzel, who completed his second year as Saint throws coach, guided his throwers to a sweep of the Liberty League throws championships as sophomore Allysa Pirinelli won the shot, discus and hammer and Carleigh Fedorka won the javelin. The Saints swept the top three in the discus at the league meet. In his two seasons as assistant coach, Saint throwers have won 12 Liberty League and NSYCTC championships in women’s competition and Pirinelli is a two-time indoor All America in the shot and earned All America honors outdoors for the first time last season.  The shot put, weight and javelin records for women have all been set during his coaching tenure at SLU.

He also coached NCAA qualifiers in the men's weight and shot with senior Geoff Grambo earning All America honors in the shot last season.

A 2006 graduate of SUNYGeneseo, Kuenzel earned a long list of honors at the collegiate level. A three-year captain of Geneseo's track and field team, Kuenzel was a four-time NCAA Division III National Qualifier in the Shot Put, finishing 11th, 15th, 9th and 13th respectively.

The Saratoga Springs, NY native was the 2005 ECAC Champion in the Indoor Shot Put and holds Geneseo School Record in the Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put and the Discus. A two-time Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award Winnder, Kuenzel was also an Academic All-American. Ironically, Kuenzel holds the Newell Field House record in the Shot Put with a distance of 16.63m.
