SAINTS LOSE TO TOP TEN TEAMS Feb. 2: St. Lawrence University’s men’s squash team took on two top ten teams in weekend competition, and while they had some competitive games and matches, both seventh-ranked Rochester and 10 th-ranked Cornell prevailed by 9-0 scores.
St. Lawrence, which is currently 18 th nationally, is now 11-6 on the season heading into a home match at 1 p.m. Saturday against Hamilton and the unveiling of the Saints’ new championship court at the Robie Squash Center.
Nick Pearson took Cornell’s Amar Gupta to four games at four with a 10-8 win in game two and Ben Ross went four with Chris Vernick at seven, winning game two 9-5. The rest of Cornell’s wins were by 3-0 scores.
Rochester also took the Saints down 9-0 with matches at eight and nine going beyond three games. Tom Whelan lost 3-1 to Ori Goldman with Whelan winning game three 10-9 to force game four and Nick Calandra went five with Dan Carson, coming from two down with 9-7 and 10-9 wins to force a game five which Carson won 9-7.
Ross lost two 10-8 games in a 3-0 loss to Alex lee at seven and Tyler Stout also had two 10-8 losses as Yohay Wakabuyushi won 3-0 at five. |
