SAINT MEN GO 2-0 IN WESLEYAN R.R. Dec. 1: St. Lawrence University’s men’s squash team improved to 5-1 on the season with wins over George Washington and Connecticut College at the Wesleyan Round Robin on Friday and Saturday. The Saints, who are now off until mid-January, beat George Washington 8-1 on Friday and came back with a 9-0 win over Connecticut College on Saturday.
Nick Pearson and Alex Dodge earned Liberty League honors for their play in the two matches as Pearson was the Player of the Week and Dodge the Rookie of the Week
In the George Washington match, Dan McElvaine won in three straight at one while Dodge went four with Matt Grossman as the two split the first two games, 9-3 Dodge and 10-8 Grossman, before Dodge put it away with 9-2 and 9-4 wins. Scott Redpath, Pearson, Tyler Stout, Dan Shafer and Ben Ross all won in three straight in three through seven.
Thomas Whelan won in four at eight as Whelan lost game one to Mike Bower, but came back with 10-8, 9-3, and 9-0 wins for the match victory. Peter Creech of GW beat Nick Colandra 3-1 at nine for the lone Colonial point. Pete Montesano won the exhibition match at ten, 3-1.
The Saints swept Conn. College as McElvaine allowed just five points and Dodge only eight in three-game wins at one and two. Redpath dropped game one to Wayne Mynatt at four, but came back to win with 9-7, 9-0, 9-3 games. Pearson, who is 6-0 on the season, was a 3-0 winner at five and Stout had a competitive series with Will Moger, winning 9-4, 9-7, 9-6. Shafer allowed only five points in a three game win at six while Ross also won 3-0 at seven.
Whelan was a 3-0 winner, 10-8, 9-2, 9-0 at eight, Colandra came back from a 10-9 first game loss to Tyler Stilwell to win 10-8, 9-2, 9-3 and Montesano won 3-0 at ten.
