BUSKEY EARNS 2008 SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA HONORS May 30: Ben Buskey '08 has been named a 2008 Scholar All-America by the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) for his outstanding efforts both on the lacrosse field and in the classroom. Buskey, who received All-America Honorable Mention in 2006, continued to lead the Saints' defensive corps throughout his career in the Scarlet and Brown. He put the finishing touches on a fantastic career with St. Lawrence having picked up All-Conference Honors for the third consecutive year. The Hanover, NH native was named Second Team All-State at the long stick midfield position.
"Ben has been one of the most dedicated and talented athletes I've ever had the pleasure of coaching, and whether it be at practice, in a game, or in his school work, he always gives his best effort," said Saints head coach Mike Mahoney. "I'm extremely proud of Ben's accomplishments during his time here, and he is most-deserving of an award of this stature."
Buskey was one of two players from the Liberty League to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors, as Skidmore's Kevin Robar was also selected.
McKEE EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS, RUSSELL IMPRESSIVE IN ALL-STAR GAME May 27: Sophomore Will McKee, who was named the 2008 Liberty League Player of the Year, has been named a USILA Third Team All-America. The Old Greenwich, CT native is the first St. Lawrence attackman to earn the honor since Jason Johnson in 1996. Meanwhile, Kevin Russell put forth a solid effort in the 2008 North-South All-Star Game, scoring three goals and adding an assist for the North squad.
St. Lawrence had three players, J.J. Hearty, Brian Crowley and Justin Demuth, earn Honorable Mention.
RUSSELL NAMED TO NORTH ALL-STAR TEAM, McKEE AND BUSKEY HONORED May 21: St. Lawrence University attackman Kevin Russell will represent St. Lawrence in the annual North-South All Star Game in Boston on Saturday. Meanwhile, Will McKee picked up First Team All-New York State honors while Ben Buskey was named to the Second Team. Russell is one of three Liberty League players who were selected for the team and will be joined by alternates PJ McComb of RPI and Greg Lamb of Clarkson for the game. The North-South All Star game will be played at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
Russell was Liberty League Rookie of the Year as a freshman and earned first-team all league honors in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He scored 25 goals and had 26 assists in his senior season and finished his career with 83 goals and 111 assists for 194 career points.
McKee, the 2008 Liberty League Player of the Year, was named First Team All-New York State at attack alongside some of the top players in the country. The Old Greenwich, CT native finished with a team-high 61 points on 41 goals and 20 assists in his sophomore campaign.
Buskey put the finishing touches on a fantastic career with St. Lawrence having picked up All-Conference Honors for the third consecutive year. The Hanover, NH native, who anchored the Saints' defensive unit each of the past two seasons, finished the 2008 season with four points (1g,3a) and 56 ground balls, second-most on the roster. Buskey was named Second Team All-State at the long stick midfield position.
