THE PROGRAM
The St. Lawrence University men's crew team is entering their tenth season in 2008-2009 after celebrating some exceptional accomplishments in recent years. The addition of two assistant coaches to the staff has helped support the growth of both the men's and women's rosters to nearly 75 rowers.
The 2007-2008 campaign proved to be one of the most impressive for the men's team as they enjoyed much success throughout the season, which was highlighted by a second place finish in the Liberty League after the men's varsity eight earned a silver medal for their efforts. At the New York State Championships, the men's novice four earned a bronze medal, while the varsity eight also placed third in the petite final of the varsity eight race.
The St. Lawrence University crew teams have seen a steady incline of interest and roster numbers since the start of the program in the fall of 1999, which has led to a countless number of regular season victories, several boats winning Liberty League titles, and a number of New York State Collegiate Rowing Championship medalists. In 2007, the women's novice eight continued their extraordinary undefeated season at the ECAC National Invitational by besting all crews in all heats of their event by nearly five seconds. The team also sent four eights to the regatta, the largest contingent in school history.
While much of their time is spent in Waddington on the St. Lawrence River, the achievements of the Saints crew team are not limited to the what they accomplish in the boats. The crew teams' average GPAs are routinely amongst the highest on campus. In 2007, twelve team members made the Dean’s List. The graduating class of seven included four magna cum laude honorees and two members of Phi Beta Kappa, while one first year woman was awarded the Ronald C. Hoffmann First Year Scholar-Athlete Award for her exceptional performance both in and out of the water.
