"Those Guys" win Brown Division
"Nuggett Blazers" win Scarlet Division

The intramural basketball season came to a dramatic end this past week when the championship of both the Brown and Scarlet divisions were decided.

In the Brown Division the number one seed Those Guys prevailed over the surprising third seed Beta. Beta led by as much a 12 points in the second half before Those Guys went on a big scoring run which ended with several key made free throws in the final minutes to seal the victory 58-55. Beta made it to the championship game by winning impressively over The Squad in the semi finals 62-39. Those guys advanced to the championship game because of a forfeit in the semi's. Geriatric Jamboree was unable to form a team for the playoffs. Congratulations to Those Guys. Team members included: Andrea Mercurio, Matt Wells, Brian Davis, Andrew Jessen, Thomas Mannella, Christopher Petteys, Jacob Tabolt, and Randy Todd.

The Scarlet Division was equally exciting during the playoffs. In the first game of the semi-finals the Nuggett Blazers avenged their only non win of the season by overcoming a three point deficit at halftime to beat Dipsy Doo Dunkaroo 50-43. They went on to face the winner of the other semi-final Sunset Park in the Championship game. The championship featured the numer 1 and 2 ranked teams. The game was back and forth the whole way before the Nuggett Blazers prevailed by three points 65-62, and finished the season undefeated. Sunset Park had their hands full in the semi-final when they came from 10 points down in the last five minutes to beat the defending champion Roosters 81-76 in overtime. Congratulations to the Nuggett Blazers. Team members included: Nicholas Burkhard, Timothy Byrnes, Jon Gauvin, Matthew Hiller, Matt Sexton, and Scott Macnamee.
FALL BROOMBALL CHAMPIONS

NOT NEARLY AAA

On December 5th, the Fall Broomball Tournament champions were born. Not Nearly AAA and The Ice Queens, both undefeated, matched up in the championship game. All the ingredients for a championship game were present, and what promised to be a good game, turned out to be so.

Coming into the game, the explosive and lightning fast Ice Queens had not given up a single goal. Through a combination of great ice play and strong goal tending from Steve Coffin, the Ice Queens had every right to be confident about their chances against Not Nearly AAA.

Not Nearly AAA had a great deal of skill and an unmatched level of experience coming into this competition. With nearly every member of the team returning as the Fall Broomball Champions and the Spring Broomball runner-ups, they too had much to feel confident about.

With the drop of the ball, the game was on. Midway through the first period, Coffin, and the Ice Queens, had their scoreless streak stopped. Ken Baker scored what would be the games only goal as he slipped by the defense of the Ice Queens and scored one on one against Coffin. Jodi McKenna and Troy Creurer assisted Baker’s goal.

The game would remain scoreless despite the Ice Queens amazingly intense surge during the last five minutes of the game. However, the uncharacteristically strong defense from Not Nearly AAA would prevail in the end.

Flag Football Championship
ATO Wins!!!

With a 3-3 record and a 4th place finish in the regular season, ATO's chances looked slim coming into the playoffs. However, a forfeit win in the first round moved the boys into the final four. Waiting for them was the ???'s who had a bye in the first round. With a 5-0 record the ???'s were the strong favorite, but ATO with their "refuse to lose" attitude proved to be more than the ???'s could handle. With a score of 35-16, ATO defeated the ???'s and earned a spot in the championship game where they would face the Has Been's. The Has Been's with a 5-1 record in the regular season breezed through the playoffs and were picked as the heavy favorite in the championship game. Going against all odds, ATO was not about to allow the Has Been's to walk away with an easy win. In their first possession, ATO marched down the field and never looked back. Scoring two touchdowns and two field goals was all it took. Thanks to a very stingy defensive unit, ATO did not allow the Has Been's to score a point until the final minute of the game. With a score of 18 - 6 ATO walked away with the chamionship.

8v8 SOCCER CHAMPIONS
COED DIVISION

THE CARVERS

The Carvers beat the Canam Kickballers in the finals of the playoffs to win the coed intramural championship. It was a tie game throughout regular play that then led to a carver goal in overtime to clench the victory. The Carvers also had a close game in the semi-finals where the won in a shoot out in double overtime against Zarabounda. The Canam Kickballers ended the season as runner up to The Carvers. They had gone 1-3 in the regular season and managed to fight there way to the finals and force The Carvers into an overtime match. Congratulations to all the other teams that had participated in the coed division making the season possible. Look to continue play in our upcoming 6v6 indoor soccer season.

8v8 SOCCER CHAMPIONS
OPEN DIVISION
THE REGULATORS

The Regulators beat The Lunkers in the finals of the playoffs to win the open division intramural championship. The regulators scored a second half goal to win 1-0. The regulators ended the regular season tied for last and managed to win their two-playoff games in a shoot out to eventually advance to the final game. The Lunkers were clearly the favored team to win after a respectable regular season and a noticeable showing in the playoffs only to be upset by the underdog team. All in all it was a great showing by both teams and also congratulations to the other teams that participated in the 8v8 intramural soccer league.

4 v 4 Volleyball Champions!

"Last Minute" (left to right): John Kent, Lee Smith, Dave Ouellette, and Davis Rogers.

In a thrilling upset, Last Minute defeated number one ranked "The Beach Boys" in two games as part of the best of three championship match on October 21, 2001. "The Beach Boys" had gone undefeated during league play in convincing fashion not losing even a single game.

However, the day belonged to the Kent, Smith, Ouellette, and Rogers quartet as they swept the number one seed. Last minute seemed to have an answer for every big play made by "The Beach Boys". After the best and hardest fought two games of the entire season, "Last Minute" was the last to be standing as the Fall Intramural volleyball champions.
