3 on 3 BASKETBALL RULES

TEAM: A team consists of 3 players on the court.

COURT: 3 on 3 basketball is a half-court game. The "check-line" shall be the top of the key.

TIME-OUTS: none, except by referee for injuries or rule discussion.

COIN TOSS: winner gets first possession in first half, loser gets first possession in second half. The referee will signal the ball in play for both halves.

PUTTING THE BALL IN PLAY: To start each half, after a score, or after a foul is awarded a player must put the ball in play from the check line. This is done by a PASS.

INBOUND PLAYS: will be made by a pass from the check line. The referee must handle the ball on all inbound plays.

BALL POSSESSION: changes hands after each basket unless a foul is awarded. All changes of possession (defensive steals, blocked shots, and rebounds) must be returned to the check line. The player in possession of the ball may maintain control and attempt to score.

FOULS: All common, personal and technical fouls shall be counted against a team total. After the 5th team foul, a BONUS shall be awarded for the remainder of the game. An individual player cannot foul out of a game, but may be ejected by the official for just cause.

PRIOR TO THE 5TH TEAM FOUL:

  1. any common foul or technical foul results in a loss of possession for the offending team
  2. any offensive foul results in disallowing a converted basket and loss of possession
  3. any shooting foul with a missed basket results in retained possession
  4. any shooting foul with a converted basket results in the basket awarded and a change in possession.

ON AND AFTER THE 5TH TEAM FOUL:

  1. any common foul results in a single foul shot and retained possession by offended team
  2. any offensive fouls results in disallowing converted basket and a single foul shot along with possession for the offended team
  3. any shooting foul with a missed basket results in a two shot foul (or a 3 shot foul if fouled shot was a 3 point try) and possession
  4. any shooting foul with a converted basket results in the basket being awarded and retained possession
  5. any technical foul will be one shot and possession for the offended team
  6. any intentional flagrant foul will be two shots and possession by the offended team

FREE THROW ATTEMPT: The referee will signal the ball in play for free throws attempts. Teams must line up promptly for foul shots. Officials will penalize teams that attempt to consume time by using stalling tactics. Officials may order stoppage of time and charge a technical foul.

SUBSTITUTIONS: ONLY AFTER a converted basket, a foul shot, or any stoppage of play. The substitute must get an official's attention and wait to be called in. A technical foul will be charged to the team for failure to abide by this rule.

HELD BALL: There will be no jump balls. Possession after a held-ball situation is on an alternating basis with the team losing the coin toss receiving the first possession.

UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT
  1. The first team listed on the schedule (left or top) wears light and the team on the right or bottom wears dark shirts.
  2. No hats are allowed.
  3. No braces or supports that may cause other players harm will be permitted
