MIDDLEBURY EXPLODES FOR 6-2 WIN


            Sept. 6: Chase Delano scored back-to-back goals just over a minute apart to snap a 1-1 tie and send sixth-ranked Middlebury College on its way to a 6-2 win over St. Lawrence University in field hockey at Middlebury Saturday afternoon.


            Middlebury, 1-0, handed the 1-2 Saints their second straight loss, outshooting SLU 19-6 on the day.

 

            The Panthers opened the scoring 9:47 into the game when Heather McCormack put back a rebound after Emilie Lannamann kicked out the initial shot by Lindsay McBride. The Saints tied the game exactly three minutes later as Michelle Verrochi scored her second of the season from Joss-Elyse Smith with 22:13 to go in the first half. Delano scored with 19:28 to go in the half and added her second 1:05 later to start a run of five straight Middlebury goals.

 

            McCormack scored her second with 16:27 to go in the half and Emily Blair scored from Delano with 6:51 left in the half to make it 5-1 at the break. Delano scored her third of the game with 16:28 to go in the second half and Jennifer Stetson scored the Saints second of the game and her second of the season unassisted with 12:30 to play in the game.

 

            Lannamann finished with 10 saves for the Saints while Caitlin Pentifallo had three for Middlebury. Middlebury had six penalty corners to three for the Saints.

 

            St. Lawrence will host Hartwick in its home opener Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
