SKIDMORE TAKES 2 TO SPLIT SERIES Apr. 6: Skidmore College snapped a 6-6 tie with a run in the bottom of the 11 th inning in game one of a Liberty League doubleheader and went on to a sweep of St. Lawrence University , 7-6 and 6-2 Sunday.
The Saints fall to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Liberty League action after going 2-2 in four games against the Thoroughbreds.
Troy Lassial took the loss in the first game of the doubleheader, giving up four earned runs in just over five innings of duty on the mound. Skidmore jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings before the Saints got on the board.
Charlie Cannan and Joel Kocan had run-scoring hits for the Saints in game one.
Skidmore built a 6-0 lead in game two, but the Saints came back to tie it with a run in the sixth and five in the seventh before Skidmore finally won it 7-6 in the bottom of the 11 th.
Tim Harris had three hits, Andy Ford drove in three runs and Kocan had tow hits and a run driven in in the second game while Matt Skelly took the loss in relief, pitching 5.2 innings of two hit ball with eight strikeouts before surrendering the winning run.
SAINTS SWEEP SKIDMORE, 4-2, 7-5 Apr. 5: St. Lawrence University’s baseball team scored five times in the seventh inning to overcome a 5-2 deficit and Chris Cook shut down Skidmore in relief in game two as the Saints swept a doubleheader from Skidmore 4-2 and 7-5 in Liberty League action on Saturday.
The two teams will complete their four-game series in Saratoga Springs beginning at noon on Sunday.
The Saints pulled back even at 7-7 overall and moved to 3-2 in Liberty League play with the sweep of the 6-8, 0-6 Thoroughbreds.
Mike Root pitched a seven-inning complete game in the opener of the series and the Saints, playing as the home team in the Saturday series, put it away with two runs in their final at bat.
Root scattered six hits and struck out four while catcher Joel Kocan had a pair of doubles and Tim Harris was two for three with a run-scoring single in the two-run sixth.
Skidmore had a 4-1 lead through the top of the sixth in the nine-inning game two, but the Saints started their comeback with a run in the bottom of the sixth and tacked on five more in the bottom of the seventh.
Charlie Cannan singled home Matt Carrigg, who had doubled for the Saints’ first run in game two and Cannan walked and scored on Andrew Ford’s single in the sixth after Skidmore had taken a 5-1 lead in the top of that inning.
Dan Ludwig doubled home a run and Christian Spicer and Ford had run-producing singles in the big seventh inning for the Saints.
Jeff Graceffo started and went five innings for the Saints with Cook winning his second of the year in relief, allowing two hits and one run in four innings.
