Giving Tree: A tree with tags bearing children's names and their gift choices is set up in the E.J. Noble University Center lobby. Anyone wishing to help a local child have a better holiday is encouraged to take a tag. For information: Anne Townsend, 5652 or atownsend@stlawu.edu.

Boo-Boo Bear Project: Boo-boo bears are given to local hospitals, for distribution to children spending the holidays there; anyone wishing to help can assist in either of two ways: by donating returnable cans and bottles, or by helping build a bear. Work sessions are scheduled frequently beginning December 1; for information, Sabrina Egeland, 5830.

Safety Committee Meeting: Meetings of the Safety Committee are open to all members of the campus community. The first few minutes of each meeting are reserved for anyone to address the committee regarding any safety issues or concerns. Next meeting is Wednesday, December 3, at 3 p.m. in E. J. Noble University Center 225.

Hats for Sale: The Nordic ski team is selling ski hats to raise money for a training camp in Quebec. Hats are red with white snowflakes, and have a brown band with "St. Lawrence" written in red. Hats, a $25 apiece, are available from team members, or Jenny Townsend, assistant coach, 5369 or jtownsend@stlawu.edu.

Lunch Bunch: Laurentian Women's Association Lunch Bunch meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the E.J. Noble University Center Formal Lounge. Remaining date for the fall semester is December 3. The program will include the annual Christmas gift exchange for those who wish to participate. Achievements
Associate Professor of Education James C. Shuman
received the Charles C. Mackey Excellence Award in Service Leadership from the New York State Colleges of Teacher Education at the association's conference in October. The award is presented annually "to an educator in New York State who has demonstrated the personal and professional qualities that exemplify the highest standards of leadership in the education profession."

Professor of English Susan E. Ward is the curator of an exhibition of quilts from the North Country's many Amish communities at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art in Auburn, New York. Titled "Quilting Among the Plain People," the exhibition is part of "Common Threads," a community-wide quilt show, and "examines how the group's simple lifestyle has changed along with the modern society that surrounds it."

An academic journal in Brazil has published book reviews written by students who participated in a workshop in translation taught in the fall of 2002 by Professor of Modern Languages Steven White. Cadernos da Tradução, a journal from the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil that specializes in literary translation, has published book reviews by Amanda Morrison '03, Nell Ketchum '03, Martha Oldfield '03, Melanie Adamsen '03 and Nicole McManus '04.

The women's squash team opened its 2003-2004 collegiate season with an impressive sweep of the field to win the first Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association squash championship at the Robie Squash Center. The Saints won all three of their matches in the women's championship by 9-0 scores and lost only four games along the way, for a nearly perfect performance. Grace "Gigi" Tuten '04, Villanova, PA, below, became the Saint women's squash career wins leader with 46.
